Art Piece by Charif Benhelima - Occupancy VI
Charif Benhelima is a Belgian photographer known for his deeply personal and evocative approach to photography. His work explores themes such as identity, memory, heritage and belonging. Often he makes invisible or intangible aspects of human experience visible. Rather than presenting photography as an objective representation of reality, Benhelima considers the medium a personal construction through which questions of identity, memory, ancestry, and one’s place within society can be explored.
Occupancy VI (2008) is part of Benhelima’s ‘From the Roots II series’. The work reflects his characteristic exploration of identity and memory, combining documentary elements with a more abstract visual language in which context and certainty disappear. This creates an open image, inviting the viewer to contemplate.
The work is a limited edition, number 4/5. It is produced as a Diasec print on aluminium, using an Ilfochrome Prestige print.
