Industrial Chair by Willy Van Der Meeren for Tubax

This chair was designed by Willy Van Der Meeren for Tubax in the 1950s.

The black painted metal tubular frame is nicely detailed.

The shaped seat and backrest are made of curved plywood.

It is a pure but comfortable chair. This chair is in very good original condition.

Willy van der Meeren (1923 – 2002) was a Belgian architect and furniture designer, he played a prominent role in the Belgian furniture design of the 1950s.

In 1951 his furniture designs appeared in La Jeune Décoration, an exhibition and competition organized in Brussels. Van Der Meeren did not win the prize but he did attract the attention of Jan Vits, the owner of the metalworking company Tubax. The cooperation between Van Der Meeren and Tubax was a fact. From 1951 to 1958 he designed for Tubax a whole catalogue of furniture for “the contemporary home”.
